Barcelona defender happy at the club, does not wish to leave amid strong interest

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of chatter surrounding Bayern Munich’s interest in Barcelona defender and third captain Ronald Araujo.

The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the game currently and has become a permanent fixture in the Barça backline.

But Bayern Munich have been poking around of late with reports suggesting that the German champions have made Araujo their top target and would be willing to sign him in January or in the summer.

Araujo very happy at Barcelona

Some reports went as far as claiming that Araujo was even contacted by Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel and director Christoph Freund, who explained the club’s project to the defender to convince him to make the jump.

But, as per a report from El Larguero (h/t Carpetas FCB), Araujo is happy and doing well at Barcelona. And, as such, the Uruguayan international is not planning on leaving the club either in January or in the summer.

There may have been some talks between Bayern Munich and the defender’s entourage, but it was only done as a courtesy and it has been made clear to the Bundesliga champions that he is not planning to leave.

Bayern ready to pay big sum

Despite the situation, Bayern Munich remain determined to try and persuade Araujo to join them be it in the winter or at the end of the season.

As such, they would even be willing to shell out a big transfer fee to coax the Uruguayan away from Barcelona.

Despite their earnest pursuit, Araujo feels happy and settled at Barça, and unless they convince him, a move is pretty much impossible.
