Barcelona loanee making a solid impression at La Liga club, could feature in Xavi’s plans next season

FC Barcelona are set to take on one of their biggest challenges this season as they prepare to host Girona at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

While the match poses great significance owing to the narrow distance between both teams on the points table, the anticipation is further heightened as Eric Garcia’s involvement adds an intriguing narrative, injecting a blend of familiarity and competition into the clash.

The center-back joined Girona on loan in the last summer transfer window after recognising he had fallen below his peers in the pecking order.

Although he met some resistance from Xavi, Garcia’s decision to leave has done him a world of good, considering his incredible form for Girona this season, as he has helped steer his Catalan counterparts to a second-place position.

Soon to make a homecoming, all eyes will be on Garcia, who will be looking to prove his worth against the Blaugranes.

Girona delighted with Garcia

Indeed, as per Sergi Capdevila of SPORT, Girona are immensely appreciative of Garcia’s efforts this season.

They consider him a player of the highest level with a huge differential in his ball output, something that coach Michel has particularly taken a liking to.

The 22-year-old’s ball distribution from the back always helped him stand out in Barcelona too, and unsurprisingly, it has earned him plaudits in Girona now, a team where there is an emphasis on possession-based football.

Could be important in Barcelona down the line

The report further acknowledges that there is a long way to go before any conclusions can be drawn, but Garcia is certainly headed in the right direction to be important at Barcelona, too.

Barcelona and Girona reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Eric Garcia until June 30 2024 without a purchase option.

As such, his return is on the cards and if he carries on his dominant performances, a future in Xavi’s Barcelona will be the most likely scenario.
