Hansi Flick’s stance on Barcelona re-signing Neymar in the summer – report

Speculations about Neymar potentially returning to FC Barcelona have once again gained traction in recent weeks.

The Brazilian superstar, who returned to his boyhood club Santos in January, dreams of returning to European football in the summer, with Barcelona as his preferred destination.

According to reports, the 33-year-old is prepared to take a salary cut to make the return possible, with Pini Zahavi acting as a conduit between the two parties in the operation.

Earlier today, we reported that Barcelona do not currently prioritise his signing. The club has made its stance clear: “Score 15 goals with Santos first, and then we will consider your signing.”

The message, conveyed to both Neymar and his agent Zahavi, indicates that the Brazilian’s fitness and performance will dictate any potential move.

What does Hansi Flick think?

Now, according to SPORT, manager Hansi Flick is not fully convinced about bringing Neymar into the current Barcelona squad.

The German coach has concerns about the Brazilian superstar’s age and physical condition, doubting his ability to perform in a team where youth and high-intensity play are key principles.

Additionally, there has been no formal discussion or proposal regarding Neymar’s potential signing, reinforcing the idea that Barcelona’s sporting directors are not in agreement on the matter.

Fair Play situation will also be a factor

Another major factor in the decision is the club’s ongoing financial uncertainty.

Barcelona are still unsure of their financial flexibility for the upcoming transfer window, particularly regarding La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations and whether they can operate under the 1:1 spending rule, reinstated after the sale of Camp Nou VIP seats in January.

Given this situation, the Catalans’ priority is to strengthen the squad with players who fit into the long-term project.

However, if financial limitations restrict other moves, the possibility of Neymar arriving on a free transfer with a salary adjusted to this new reality could resurface.

Where there is no doubt is in how the dressing room would receive Neymar’s return. Some players, such as young star Lamine Yamal, would be thrilled at the opportunity to share a locker room with their idol.
