Dani Olmo was Deco’s major bet for this season. Barcelona invested €55 million to secure his signing from RB Leipzig, and the midfielder has proven to be a complete success.
Despite having had to face registration issues and numerous injury problems, the Spanish international’s quality has shone through as he has had a major role in the domestic treble success.
Given his undoubted quality, Manchester City have shown an interest in signing Olmo as they prepare to move on from Kevin De Bruyne and potentially Bernardo Silva as well.
Olmo not for sale
However, according to SPORT, Barcelona have no intentions of selling Olmo only a year after bringing him back to the club.
Manchester City tried to sign the 27-year-old back in 2023 but the move ended collapsing. However, their interest never faded as Pep Guardiola remains an admirer of the Spanish international.
But the move will not happen as both Olmo and Barcelona have made their position clear.
Speaking to Barça One, Barcelona director Deco was unequivocal: “Dani Olmo will be a very important player next season. We knew exactly what he could bring us.”
This comes after Olmo’s agent, Andy Bara, made it perfectly clear that the playmaker is happy at Barcelona and is not considering an exit.
“We’re not talking to any other club. Dani is very happy at Barcelona at the moment, he’s winning titles there and is in a great team. The rumours are not true. But of course, you never know what the future holds.”
Injuries prevented Olmo from having a fully consistent season, but he has been decisive in crucial moments for the team.
Manager Hansi Flick’s support has been crucial for the 27-year-old, who made it clear that the Spaniard was vital to the team when fully fit, and stood by him through the setbacks and registration issues.
Olmo’s integration into this Barcelona team has been seamless and greater things are expected of him next season.
