After yet another defeat at the hands of Royal Antwerp, Barcelona are set to take on Valencia later this evening.
It will be a must-win encounter for the Catalans, who are desperately looking for three points in their bid to keep up with Girona and Real Madrid in the race for the league title.
Frenkie de Jong facing suspension risk
After midweek’s defeat to Royal Antwerp, Barcelona are likely to be boosted by the return of Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutchman was not included in the midweek squad owing to a fever. Despite a late change to the roster, he was not included in the squad.
As de Jong looks to make his return, though, the midfielder may proceed with caution. The player could be at risk of suspension, having picked up four yellow cards in La Liga this season.
Although de Jong will be eligible to play against Valencia, a booking this evening means he will miss out on the next game against Almeria, in what will be the last league game of the year.
Lewandowski, Romeu & others also facing a risk
Although de Jong is the only player heading into the game with a suspension risk, there are other Barcelona stars walking on thin ice.
Robert Lewandowski, Oriol Romeu, Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix are some of the Barça stars with three yellow cards in La Liga this season.
That means a booking against Valencia could put them in touching distance of missing another game through suspension.
If any of them pick up another booking against Almeria, they could miss out on the league game against Las Palmas.
