Hansi Flick to hold a conversation with Barcelona director about signing a new centre-back

The recent departure of Inigo Martinez has left a gaping hole in Barcelona’s defensive unit.

The veteran centre-back was the beating heart of Barça’s defence last season. And although Barcelona have enough options to replace him, none of them are yet to prove themselves under Hansi Flick.

Eric Garcia is one player who has impressed the most. But the former Man City starlet often gets used elsewhere as backup.

Keeping that in mind, many believe Barcelona may require reinforcements in the defensive unit this summer, in order to replace Martinez.

Flick to hold a conversation with Deco

After the Joan Gamper tie against Como, where the club won 5-0, Hansi Flick confirmed that he may speak to Deco regarding defensive reinforcements.

Flick, who did not hold a presser as interviews were only given to channels with rights for Joan Gamper broadcast, told TV3, “I’ll talk to Deco when he’s here, and then we’ll see. But right now, I don’t think we’ll sign.”

As per Mundo Deportivo, Flick is indeed going to hold a conversation with Deco regarding potential reinforcements in the defensive unit.

The two individuals are expected to meet when Deco returns from his private trip to Brazil. However, the report adds that a new signing has been ruled out for now.

This is largely due to the fact that Barcelona are still facing economic pressure and are yet to even register their new signings, Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia.

However, the situation could open up if Barcelona are to return to the 1:1 rule in the near future. With certain levers in the works, it will be interesting to see how this matter transpires in the coming weeks.
