Julian Araujo will not play against Barcelona due to ‘fear clause’ in loan contract

Barcelona’s recent summer transfer window saw many players hit the exit door as the Catalan giants were in desperate need of offloading players to secure new signings.

But apart from a few names generating funds, a large portion of those departures comprised loan operations.

And Julian Araujo was one of the loanees to depart, transferring to Las Palmas, whom Barça will be facing shortly after the Christmas break.

The Spanish side have been doing incredibly well under the guidance of former Barça Atletic coach Garcia Pimienta. They find themselves placed ninth in the league table in their first season following promotion.

Julian Araujo will not participate

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Julian Araujo will not be able to play against Barcelona due to a ‘fear clause’ inserted into his loan contract.

This is not the first time Barça have taken such precautionary measures with their loan players, as Pablo Torre recently was disallowed from playing for Girona against his parent team

Unlike Torre, though, Araujo has proven to be a far more important figure for Las Palmas this season, shining under the guidance of Pimienta.

The Mexican has two goals this season as a right-back with an astute offensive presence, but he has most importantly shown great defensive diligence.

As such, Los Amarillos will be forced to lock horns with a key man missing from their ranks. Alberto Moleiro, another top performer for the club this term, will miss out due to injury.

Barcelona’s fear clause may thus turn out to come in handy, as the three points will be ever-so vital considering their current state in the league standings.
